Off the Grid Open House
Posted Jul 15, 2010
It’s been almost one year since our first open house in Downtown Jacksonville for Off the Grid and we have multiple spaces now serving as studio and exhibition space for artists in our community. Off the Grid has been tremendously successful both for artists and for property owners. We have continued to work to find additional spaces for the program and will host an open house on
Thursday, July 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 214 N. Hogan St., Suite 120
We know there are dozens of artists interested in the program and this is the time for any artist interested to walk through the available spaces. Interested artists need to check in at the Downtown Vision office at 214 N. Hogan St. Suite 120 (corner of Hogan and Adams). Upon arrival you will be given a map and listing of the spaces open. The list of open spaces will not be shared in advance – you’ll need to attend the open house. Most of these spaces are within walking distance, so you should only need to park once. Also parking meters on the street are free after 6 p.m.
Finally, a few other points to note:
• Downtown Vision’s role is not to manage every aspect of the relationship between the owner and the artist. Rather, our goal is to help facilitate introductions, help connect people, and convince property owners to consider working with artists.
• Whatever terms an artist and property owner come to are independent of Downtown Vision. From our standpoint, any artist and any property owner that decide to work together is a big win for Downtown.
• Artists interested in space are required to complete an application which will be reviewed by committee.
**Please know Off the Grid does not provide free space to artists.
Artists are responsible for some costs that are determined and
negotiated with the property owner.
A Reminder – What Is Off the Grid?
Off the Grid is a partnership between artists, property owners, Downtown Vision, Inc. and the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. Off the Grid facilitates introductions between Jacksonville artists and Downtown property owners in an effort to activate vacant spaces in the urban core with artistic energy and provide artists with much needed work and exhibition space. Special thanks to artist, Jim Draper, who inspired this project.
