The Jacoby family was attracted to the First Coast area by the amenities of Ponte Vedra Beach where Robert E. and Monica Jacoby now reside, but soon after they moved here about 10 years ago, they got involved in the cultural amenities of the Jacksonville area. Bob Jacoby was a driving force in building the New York advertising firm of Ted Bates Worldwide Inc. When he retired, he was searching the country for a relaxing retreat when friends showed him the Jacksonville area. After he moved here, a neighbor invited him to get involved in the symphony. He was on the symphony board's Times-Union Center building committee when it decided that a new third hall for acoustic symphony orchestra performance should be built. He gave $2.5 million as the lead gift for that cause.
